Close to 90 members, spouses and guests attended a terrific late afternoon alfresco Summer Dinner Party and Tennis Exhibition at the South Yarmouth Tennis Club on Saturday, July 17th. Exhibition Pros Patrick Wyeth, Max Francis, Aidan Roach and SYTC Head Pro Harry Cohen put on a match for the ages that was competitive and very entertaining. (See video above.)
Thanks to Dennis Murphy's Parking Team, (Dennis, Al Hero and Brian Dagget) members dropped off their chairs and food and parked easily. Our three reception volunteers did a great job welcoming and directing people to their seats. Thank you Patti Sakellis, Judy Sullivan and Mary Morrison!
Steve Francis did his usual best and he and Ken Huckins got the club in GREAT shape. Steve introduced the players as only he can. The exhibition was really fun to watch. VERY high-quality play. It was great to see our Head Pro, Harry Cohen, hit and to meet his very supportive parents, Steven and Lynda.
Thank goodness it was an 8-game pro set. (Typical for an exhibition.) Everyone loved the tennis but everyone was also ready for the main dinner by the time the XO was over.
The tables were set and styled perfectly and the flowers were like artwork. (Thank you Judy Link and Sue Carnathan.)
The appetizers were delicious - as was all of the food thanks to Bob Levine - our "Food Czar." The variety and quality of the salads was great - thanks to Pam Hero. The main entrees were of terrific quality and cooked just right. EVERYONE was commenting on how good everything tasted! Thank you Team Leader Dave Holden and Team Members Al Hero, Bob Foley and Mario Sakellis.
We called tables in groups for dinner, which was pretty orderly. But, by the time the desserts were out, there was no holding people back. Thirteen homemade desserts were offered thanks to Team Leader Cindy Noble and her deep team of chefs. Janet Holden (Dave's wife) made her delicious and pretty homemade chocolate tennis racquet favors and she and Cindy delivered them to each table as the candles were lit - creating a beautiful ambience as things wound down.
What a night!
