One of the events of the summer took place late yesterday afternoon as the skies of Cape Cod miraculously cleared and Lida and Frank Lloyd kindly hosted a "Gatsby"themed cocktail party at their spectacular setting on the Bass River. Many SYTC members attended - some in period garb. Out thanks to our gracious hosts and to everyone who brought so many good food items.
Our thanks to club members who generously open their hearts and homes and share their spectacular locations. Last Sunday, Mario and Patti Sakellis hosted a delicious brunch for players after mixed doubles at their lovely home.
The Women's Members Guest tournament and luncheon began with the " closest to the target" Serve Competition for our guests. 1st place went to Sue Adams, guest of Cindy Noble, 2nd place - Kathleen Oshleger, guest of Carla Rossiter, & 3rd place - Dawn Giglio, guest of Marilou Barsam. The round robin format tennis followed, culminating in the finals. Winners were Carla Rossiter and Kathleen Oshleger and runners-up Harriet Brochu & Ann Walasyk. Prizes were awarded and a delicious luncheon was shared by everyone. Thanks to Tennis Director, Rich Shannon for organizing the matches. Connie Berktau & Cindy Noble, Chairs. Pictured from left to right are Cam Mazzoni, Tyler Shibles, Sonny Bisazza and Patrick Wyeth Four of the best tennis players Cape Cod has ever produced graced the courts of the South Yarmouth Tennis Club late Saturday afternoon for a rousing full three-set match. Club members and visitors alike were treated to some outstanding tennis and a tasty pot luck dinner. In the end, the victors (Wyeth and Mazzoni) withstood an onslaught of terrific shots and lengthy rallies.
Each player, now playing in college, cut their teeth on the courts of the South Yarmouth Tennis Club and participated in the club's Youth Tennis Instruction Program, under the direction of Club Tennis Director Rich Shannon. It's gratifying to see what great players and what good young men they have become. |
