Tennis, friendship, pizza, beverages and awards. How do you beat that? The men's 4.0 League End-Of-Season Pizza Party and Awards Ceremony took place on Wednesday right after doubles play. Top players are recognized for their accomplishments during the season. Rob Owens (Above left in white t-shirt) took this year's Iron Man Award as the individual who represents the group's most admired qualities as voted by his peers: Good sportsmanship, a high level of doubles skill, exceptional endurance under fire and a strong season's performance. Dave Guild (Above right in white t-shirt) took took home top honors for the highest average score each day of play. Wayne Castronovo (not pictured) was honored for wining the most sets and Wayne Castronovo, Bob Foley and Roger Beers tied for most match play.
The Men's 4.0 League players devoted some time before tennis on Wednesday afternoon for a club clean-up, prior to the main closing event in October. Many of the guys head south for the winter and miss the main clean-up event so they volunteered to do a pre-clean up, which included cutting around the exterior fence perimeter, picking up some of the areas near the storage sheds and raking. Many thanks to those who volunteered.
Beautiful weather complimented our closing round-robin with all courts filled on Saturday, Sept. 9th. A new tradition is established.! A gourmet luncheon prepared by our own participating chefs preceded our finals. Jackie and Henry Pescatore (Above left) were defeated by winners Deb Norton and Bob Levine (Above right.) Thanks to Sue Roberts & Steve Roberts, Bob & Barbara Levine for organizing.
They put away their technologically advanced 2017 racquets and took up their tools of the past for a spirited afternoon of vintage tennis and great dining. Think play was easy? Imagine hitting a ball with a sweet spot the size of a grapefruit. Today's racquets have a hitting zone that's 4-6 times greater! A very special thank you to Al and Pam Hero for hosting this event.
