Steve Francis, Club Manager
Steve received both Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees at Springfield College. He was a 4 year varsity collegiate gymnast earning NCAA All-American honors and the New England Division 1 championship on rings. As the Athletic Director at Barnstable High, Steve managed the largest athletic program in Southeast Massachusetts, with 1,600 student athletes, 84 coaches and 54 athletic teams. His 33 year career in education included teaching and coaching at the collegiate and secondary levels. While teaching physical education, he developed a number of students who became varsity tennis players. He and his wife Karen built their house in West Barnstable on a lot that backed up to their association tennis court 20 years ago. Their children Jessica and Max both learned to play on this court and went on to play high school, USTA and college tennis. Jessica is currently the D-Y Girls Varsity tennis coach. Ken Huckins, Associate Manager
Ken Huckins has been an SYTC member since 2012, a Youth Program instructor, a staff member, and a Board member. Ken's tennis background is far ranging from his current position as boys varsity tennis coach at Sturgis Charter School to a variety of tennis coaching and training positions going back to 1987. He has been affiliated with the Arthur Carrington Tennis Academy in Amherst, MA., the Bay Road Tennis Club at Hampshire College in Amherst (pro shop manager) the Bollettieri Tennis Camp at Mount Holyoke College (video analysis of player strokes), Cathedral High school in Springfield, MA (boys varsity coach 1996-2007), Ludlow Tennis Club, Ludlow, MA ( junior clinics and lessons 2003-2007), and the Sturgis Charter School (both boys and girls varsity coach 2008-present.) Harry Cohen, Teaching Pro
Harry grew up in Pacific Palisades, California and was a highly ranked high school player in Southern California. He went on to play singles and doubles on the Sonoma State University tennis team until COVID-19 shut the program. Harry transferred to Chapman University in Orange, CA . and played #2 for Chapman. He received Conference Athlete of the week twice as well as being ranked #7 in the country for doubles. He just graduated with a degree in Communications. Harry has led clinics for junior and elite junior players and is eagerly looking forward to leading SYTC’s instructional program again this summer. Contact Harry: hacohen@chapman.edu |
Nikolas Ginter, Teaching Pro
Nikolas Ginter has been playing tennis since he was 8 years old and has been ranked as high as top 20 for the boys 18's in USTA. Along with USTA, Nik played high school tennis and was ranked top 10 in Massachusetts. He is currently a senior at Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL, and is also part of the Lynn men's tennis team. He plays for an elite Division 2 team that has been ranked in the top 10 in the country for the last several years. Apart from playing tennis, Nik has been coaching since 2018 at various clubs and academies including the Emilson YMCA in Hanover, MA and the Rick Macci tennis academy in Boca Raton.
