REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR SUMMER YOUTH TENNIS INSTRUCTION PROGRAM

6/26/2018

Picture
The South Yarmouth Tennis Club’s Youth Tennis Program kicks off Monday July 2 and runs for eight weeks on a Monday Wednesday Friday 12:30 – 2:30 schedule. Under the direction of Tennis Director Rich Shannon, assisted by SYTC Assistant Pro Cam Mazzoni and Cape Cod High School tennis coaches Doug Leonard and Jimmy Bisazza, the program offers a great opportunity for younger players to develop their tennis skills and fitness in a fast-moving, fun-oriented atmosphere.
In addition to Cam Mazzoni, top Cape players including Max Francis, Sonny Bisazza, Tyler Shibles, Patrick Wyeth, Anna Bach and Julia Smith have “graduated” from the youth program and gone on to high school championships and college competition.
“Younger players on Cape do not have much chance to play on clay. Yet internationally many of the best players learn, train and compete on clay courts, where they can develop the consistent groundstrokes and aerobic fitness necessary for tennis success. South Yarmouth Tennis is committed to offering a combination of youth instruction and an affordable youth membership that will keep the next generation of players focused on tennis and hitting on the SYTC clay right through their college years,” said club President Stan Werlin.

The Second Annual Best Serve on Cape Cod Challenge ended with a bang on Saturday, June 16th, 2018, as Patrick Wyeth bested a tough field in the men’s open fast serve category with a 116.9 MPH serve earning top honors for the second year in a row.

“It’s really something to see these players compete,” said South Yarmouth Tennis Club President, Stan Werlin. “Patrick’s winning serve left a nearly foot-long crease on the clay court. The sound of the serve off the big servers' racquets was like the crack of a cannon every time… exactly the sound you hear at pro tennis tournaments,” he said.

Second place was boomed in by Tom Lomenzo at 113.9 MPH. Third place was Tyler Shibles at 112.7 MPH. The age 70 and over fast serve division was won by SYTC club member  Fred Churchill at 73 MPH. who also won the "most accurate serve" in his division.

Julia Boiko ripped a 70.8 MPH serve winning the women’s fast serve Open division. Annie Braude took second place with a 50.8 MPH serve. SYTC club member Carla Rossiter topped the 50-69’s group with a 41.6 MPH serve.

The event was sponsored by Bass River Chiropractic and a $300 donation was made to the South Yarmouth Tennis Club Youth Scholarship Foundation.
